Aliens: Fact or Fiction?

"There's a monster outside my room. Can I have a glass of water?" Signs is a science fiction thriller written by M. Night Shyamalan that tells us how everything happens for a reason. With actors Mel Gibson (Graham Hess), Abigail Breslin (Bo Hess), Rory Culkin (Morgan Hess), and Joaquin Phoenix (Merrill Hess), Signs has won the ASCAP Award and the Bogey Award. This film has a modern day setting and takes place in Pennsylvania. Signs is funny, scary, and a drama all bundled up in one!

Graham Hess, a single father of two, has lost his faith since his wife died in an accident. One morning, mysterious formations appear in Graham's corn field. The corn circles leaves curiosity in his family which only worsens as corn circles and other strange things begin appearing all across the world. Graham's faith is tested, and he must finally come to grips with the loss of his wife.

One aspect of the movie that I admired was the acting. The acting seemed so real, it made me feel as if I was watching it in person. For example, in the scene when Morgan had an asthma attack, his facial expressions and breathing seemed so realistic. It's amazing how someone his age could play that part so well. From the look of his face it seemed as if the pain was unbearable. His breathing was so heavy and fast that it looked like he would never be able to catch his breath. I honestly thought he was going to die.

Not only did I enjoy the acting, but the brains behind the movie wrote a story that helped me connect with the family. During the beginning and the middle of the movie there were moments when I wanted to jump into the movie and help the family with their pain and suffering. For instance, when Graham's wife was dying, I wanted to rewind the movie and change the scene to a happier ending. Seeing Morgan suffer with asthma made me wish asthma never existed. However, by the end of the movie I realized the director had a reason for these tragedies. Everything happens for a reason. Morgan's asthma saved him from dying from the poison. Morgan's mom's last words saved the entire family from the aliens.

This movie was dragged out a bit, but it builds up the excitement. Not only did my family laugh during the movie, but they also screamed. All I recommend for the viewers of this movie is not to have your younger children watch it with you. Signs does include some foul language and violence. Overall this is a great movie to watch and I would recommend it for mostly anyone to see it.
